The requirements of participation are the following:

1.       Availability of 150-200 Kg of cocoa beans from the same farm/coop that won an ICA, in storage, by early March 2019 to be shipped to the buyer.  These beans can be of a different harvest than the year of the ICA but the quality needs to be similar and it will be tested by the Cocoa of Excellence Programme.

2.       Capacity of the ICA producers to send 1Kg of cocoa beans from the lot to be sold, for physical and sensory evaluation before 30 November 2018 to the Chair of the CoEx Technical Committee, Edward Seguine in the USA.

3.       Capacity of the ICA producers or of a warehouse to ship 150-200 Kg of the cocoa beans to auction buyer after the auction early March 2019.

Based on availability of beans and capacity to ship from a warehouse shortly after the auction in March 2019, bean lots will be identified and the physical and sensory quality and flavour of the cocoa bean lots will be evaluated by the Cocoa of Excellence Programme to ensure that it is similar to the quality and flavour of the beans that won an ICA.  Between 5 and 7 lots will be selected for the auction and chocolate produced for potential buyers to sample at Chocoa.  All technical information about the quality and flavour profile will be published for all interested bidders by mid-February 2019.

Make a bid for your favourite cocoa during the second live auction in Amsterdam on Friday February 22nd at 16:00.  All profits will go towards development projects chosen by the selected producers.

All participants and visitors of Chocoa have access to the auction ceremony. Visit the Trade Fair during the day, discover the various beans on auction at the Cocoa of Excellence Programme stand and taste the chocolate made of the selected lots.  More information on the 2019 edition of the auction and the specific bean lots will follow.
